Blackpink’s Lisa made a comeback to the music industry after almost two and a half years with her new song Rockstar, which marks the first official release from her record label LLOUD.

The two-minute-48-second music video of the song showcases a bold new hip-hop style, marking a significant departure from Lisa’s K-pop idol image. It explores Lisa’s Thai roots and reveals a new side of Lisa with fierce and edgy English raps.

The music video shows Lisa exploring the streets of Bangkok, sometimes on her own and at other times with other dancers. In one scene, the singer sports a backless crop top in the shape of a star, which visually matches the title of the single.

“Make your favourite singer wanna rap, baby, la, la, Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?’ I said — That's my life, baby, I’m a rockstar,” Lisa croons in the music video, delivering through the lyrics her shift from the traditional K-pop scenario.

Lisa made history as the first female solo artist to win the best K-pop artist title at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2022 for her music video Lalisa. She released her debut single album Lalisa in September 2021, becoming the first female K-pop artist to sell 736,000 records in its first week in South Korea.

All the members of Blackpink — Lisa, Jennie, Rose and Jisoo — last appeared together in the music video of their 2022 single Shut Down, which went on to top the Billboard Global 200.
