Actress. Musician. Entrepreneur. Businesswoman. Philanthropist. Memoirist. Priyanka Chopra wears many hats, and with ease. She’s vocal about women’s empowerment and fearlessly takes a stand for things she believes in. On her 40th birthday, we take a look at how Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra Jonas has evolved from being a Bollywood actress to a force to reckon with on a global stage.

  1. By women, for women: Priyanka Chopra became an investor in the online dating app Bumble during the company’s expansion in India in 2018. The year before, she had collaborated with Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd on Bumble Bizz.

“Women want love, they want friendship and they want to find a career, and that’s the uniqueness of what Bumble delivers — a digital community that encompasses all that, while empowering women to take charge of their lives,” says Priyanka, on the Bumble website. The ‘by women, for women’ company has made rapid strides since and gone on to become a billion-dollar company.

  1. Philanthropy: The Holberton School was founded in Silicon Valley by Sylvain Kalache and Julien Barbier to offer students a tuition-free education till they find a job after graduation. Priyanka joined Holberton’s board of trustees and invested $8.2 million in the school in 2018. Her mission: to empower and support women in technology.
  2. Eco-friendly business: As a businesswoman, Priyanka goes for things that are close to her heart and chooses causes she believes in. She launched her line of personal care, Anomaly Haircare, which is vegan, eco-friendly and affordable. The label has been dedicated to forming a sustainable line through eco-friendly packaging.
  1. Upholding her heritage: Priyanka set up a restaurant of her own, Sona, in New York to celebrate Indian food at a global level. Helmed by chef Hari Nayak, Sona became a popular spot in NYC, following which Priyanka also launched her own homeware line in 2022.
  2. Fashion forward: She and her musician husband Nick Jonas recently made an investment in the luxury sportswear brand Perfect Moments, and the decision was based on the fact that they have been users and longtime fans of the brand.
  3. Smart moves: In the middle of 2021, Priyanka put her money in Genies, a virtual avatar company that also has investors like singer Camilla Cabello and American socialite Paris Hilton. Some months before that, the Quantico actress had made an investment in Apartment List, a California-based rental marketplace, which made perfect sense given that house hunting went through the roof in the US during the pandemic.
  4. Talent hunt and film production: Purple Pebble Pictures is Priyanka’s very own production company, where, apart from being the founder, she’s also its ‘Talent Samurai and Chief Troublemaker’. The company aims at promoting new talent and producing small-budget films, alongside rich regional content. A few of their noteworthy productions are The Sky is Pink, starring Priyanka and Farhan Akhtar; the National Award-winning Marathi film Ventilator; and The White Tiger, which also starred Priyanka and Rajkummar Rao.
  5. Memoir: She wrote the memoir, Unfinished, chronicling her journey from being a beauty queen to a top Bollywood star, to moving to the US to work in the television and film industry and then settling down after her marriage to Nick Jonas. The book became a New York Times bestseller after its release. Going by the title of the book, we can expect more on her life from her pen in the future.
