Tollywood star Jisshu Sengupta turned 47 today and his wife, Nilanjanaa Sengupta, wished him on Instagram with an adorable collage of photos. The couple, who recently celebrated their 20th marriage anniversary, starred opposite each other in Mainak Bhaumik’s directorial debut Aamra.

In the 2006 film featuring six characters, Jisshu played a telefilm director, while Nilanjanaa played a professor’s wife who aspired to get into acting. And the duo’s cute chemistry was one of the best bits of Aamra, a slice-of-urban-life film on modern love and sexuality.

Here are three other actresses with whom Jisshu has had crackling chemistry on screen.

Jisshu and Riya Sen in Noukadubi (2010)

Rituparno Ghosh’s adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel has Jisshu as a newly-married law student, Ramesh, who mistakenly returns home with another man’s bride — Kamala, played by Riya Sen — after a tempest capsizes their boat in the river. When the error comes to light, Ramesh and Kamala maintain a distance, living under the same roof, but a silent romance blossoms nevertheless. Jisshu and Riya’s pairing lit up the mellow tone of Rituparno’s period piece.

Jisshu and Koel Mallick in Ghare & Baire (2018)

Yet another romantic comedy by Mainak Bhaumik that treated us to yet another delightful pairing. In Ghare & Baire, Jisshu’s Amit and Koel’s Labanya are childhood friends who don’t quite see eye to eye on most matters. The friendship is rekindled years later when Amit returns to Kolkata from Mumbai to make a career as a musician, and Labanya has reluctantly agreed to marry an NRI. With both at a crossroads, the two buddies turn to each other and discover their love through a series of hilarious events. The icing on the cake was definitely the lilting song Hridoyer Rong.

Jisshu and Solanki Roy in Baba Baby O (2022)

Aritra Mukherjee’s film dwelled on taboos like single fatherhood, surrogacy and homosexuality, and starred Jisshu as a man in his 40s, disinterested in marriage, who decides to become a father through surrogacy. However, things change when he meets Brishti (Solanki Roy), who is dealing with her own set of troubles with her boyfriend. As Megh and Brishti come closer and navigate their struggles, the stage is set for a subdued romance with Jisshu and Solanki’s effortless chemistry. We specially loved Megh serenading Brishti with the song Ei Mayabi Chander Raate.
