Filmmaker Karan Boolani’s directorial debut Thank You For Coming — starring Bhumi Pednekar, Kusha Kapila and Shehnaaz Kaur Gill — is set to have its global premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada today, the makers have said in a statement.
“The response Thank You For Coming is receiving is quite overwhelming for me. It's an absolute honour to debut at TIFF with your first film, and now that I am here and see the eagerness of people to watch our film, it's a feeling I can’t even put into words,” Boolani said ahead of the premiere, to be held at Roy Thomson Hall and Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
Produced by Anil Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor and written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh, the film also stars Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi. It revolves around five best friends who assemble at a family gathering and embark on a journey to discover the true depth of their friendship and love.
Bhumi expressed her pride in representing India globally at the festival and spoke about the film’s theme. “The film conveys a very special and important message. It celebrates the unbounded spirit of young girls who are in search of love and how they want to live their life freely,” the 34-year-old actress said.
Sharing her feelings about the film’s premiere, Shehnaaz said, “The outpouring of love and support I've been receiving for Thank You For Coming is truly overwhelming, and I simply cannot wait for the world to witness the bold and immensely entertaining movie we've brought to life.”
“I’m so grateful that I am a part of a film that stands for so many important things, a story by women for women and a comedy led by women which is hardly seen in Bollywood,” said actress Dolly Singh.
Fashion editor and actress Kusha Kapila said, “It’s such a reputed festival and the fact that Thank You For Coming has gotten selected is proof that we have made something worth your while. It solidifies our faith and love in the film.”
Sharing her thoughts about the film’s goals, Hum Do Hamare Do actress Shibani Bedi said, “I was sure from the beginning that the film would start a conversation around one of the most primal needs women have which is such a taboo, especially in a country like India.”
Thank You For Coming will be released in theatres worldwide on October 6.
