Bhumi Pednekar’s mother gifted her a gold coin as a token of appreciation after watching her latest film Bhakshak, the actress said in an Instagram post on Thursday.

“Mummy gives me a gold coin every time she feels I have grown as an actor,” the 34-year-old actress wrote alongside a picture of her mother Sumitra Satish Pednekar planting a kiss on her forehead.

The Thank You For Coming actress added that she knew she was about to receive another coin after seeing her mother feeling “overwhelmed” by her performance in Bhakshak.

Bhumi, who attended the screening of Bhakshak with her mother and her sister Samiksha, recalled how no one spoke on their ride back home. “Once we were home, Samiksha started talking to me and there were just tears rolling down her eyes,” the actress mentioned in her note.

“This film is beyond what it does for you, it’s about what it does for those children. We can’t fail them again,” Samiksha had told Bhumi after returning home from the screening.

The actress revealed that she has a total of seven coins from her mom. “There is no award greater than the one that I get from my family,” she further said.

Bhumi thanked her sister and her mother before concluding her note. Expressing gratitude towards her mom, the actress said, “Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader and my biggest critic.”

In Bhakshak, a joint venture of Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment, Bhumi plays a fearless local reporter, who uses every ounce of her strength to investigate the abuse of young girls at a shelter in Uttar Pradesh’s Munawwarpur.

Helmed by Pulkit, Bhakshak is Red Chillies Entertainment’s second digital production after the 2022 film Darlings starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma. The crime thriller, which also features Sanjay Mishra and Sai Tamhankar in key roles, premiered on Netflix on February 9.
