Bholaa, Dasara, Pathu Thala and Dungeons & Dragons: Films to catch in theatres this weekend

From an adventure-fantasy film based on a popular game to a crime thriller where local ruffians take a vow of honour to avenge their friend’s death, four big films — one Hindi, one Tamil, one Telugu and one English — are running in the cinemas this weekend. Here’s a look.

Bholaa (Hindi)

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Deepak Dobriyal, Sanjay Mishra and Gajraj Rao

An adaptation of the 2019 Tamil film Kaithi, Bholaa revolves around a newly released convict of the same name (Ajay Devgn). On his way to meet his daughter, Bholaa is stopped by IPS officer Diana Joseph (Tabu), who asks him to drive a truck full of unconscious police officers to a nearby hospital. Bholaa encounters several obstacles on the way and gets embroiled in a drug-smuggling racket run by Ashwathama (Deepak Dobriyal).

Dasara (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada)

Cast: Nani, Keerthy Suresh, Dheekshith Shetty, Shine Tom Chacko and Samuthirakani

Set against the backdrop of Singareni coal mines near Godavarikhani in Telangana, the events in this action adventure film unfold in the year 1995. Dharani (Nani) is a local ruffian who lives a carefree life with his friends Soori (Dheekshith Shetty) and Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) by stealing coal. When Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chacko), son of Shivanna (Samuthirakani), is elected as the village head, Soori is killed under mysterious circumstances on the day of his marriage with Vennela. Dharani and Vennela vow to take revenge for Soori’s death and set out on a mission to find the perpetrators of the crime.

Pathu Thala (Tamil)

Cast: Silambarasan, Gautham Karthik, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Priya Bhavani Shankar

Shakthivel (Gautham Karthik), a righteous cop, goes undercover in order to capture crime lord AG Raavanan (Silambarasan). However, during the course of his mission, he realises that AGR only wears the mask of a villain but his intentions are always good. Shakthivel decides to join hands with him in order to save him from his nemesis Naanjilaar Gunasekaran (Gautham Vasudev Menon). Pathu Thala is a remake of the 2017 Kannada film Mufti.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (English)

Directed by: John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein

Cast: Chris Pine, Sophia Lillis, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant and Justice Smith

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a fantasy adventure film based on a tabletop role-playing game of the same name. The film revolves around Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine), a former member of the Harpers, who turns to stealing in order to raise his daughter Doric (Sophia Lillis). He forms a team with a barbarian named Holga Kilgore (Michelle Rodriguez), an amateur sorcerer called Simon Aumar (Justice Smith) and a con-artist known as Forge Fitzwilliam (Hugh Grant) in order to steal a resurrection tablet that would help him resurrect his dead wife.
