Bhediya to Prosenjit Weds Rituparna: Movies releasing in theatres this Friday

At least six new films —one Hindi, one English and four Bengali— will hit theatres on November 25

From a werewolf let loose in Arunachal Pradesh, a man obsessed with shoes to an adventurous family on an interplanetary mission and a woman madly in love with a matinee idol —new films releasing this Friday offer a range of stories. This weekend promises to be an entertaining one for movie lovers.

Bhediya (Hindi)

Cast: Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Deepak Dobriyal, Abhishek Banerjee and Paalin Kabak

Set in Arunachal Pradesh, this creature comedy film revolves around Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan), who is bitten by a mythical wolf on an auspicious night. Bhaskar soon starts discovering special powers and transforms into a werewolf. He enlists the help of his friends in solving the mystery behind this creature and reviving his old self.

Strange World (English)

Directed by: Don Hall

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Liu

The Clades are a legendary family of explorers who set off to the mysterious land of Avalonia, where they discover energy-providing plant Pando. Twenty-five years later, when Pando begins to lose its power, the family must reunite and return to Avalonia in order to find the root cause behind the development and save the magical plant.

Prosenjit Weds Rituparna (Bengali)

Rituparna (Ipsita Mukherjee) is a die-hard fan of superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and is determined to marry only the actor and no one else. Her world comes crashing down when her parents forcibly wed her off to the superstar’s namesake (Rishav Basu). Sympathetic to his wife’s obsession with the film star, Prosenjit promises her that he will arrange for Rituparna to meet the man of her dreams. But he soon loses interest and begins to loathe his partner’s craze for another man.

Mahishasur Marddini (Bengali)

Cast: Rituparna Sengupta, Saswata Chatterjee, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Saheb Bhattacharya, Joy Badlani and Rohit Basfore

The events in the film unfold over the course of one night. The story begins on the eve of Durga Puja with the brutal gangrape of a 10-year-old deaf-and-mute girl. Meanwhile, a woman and her four paying guests are gearing up for the festivities when a spate of visitors turn this night into one of introspection and catharsis.

JUTO - The Journey (Bengali)

Sourish Dey’s debut feature film is a satirical comedy that revolves around a man and his obsession with shoes. The silent film, captured in sepia tone, offers a tinge of nostalgia and explores how far a man can go for the sake of his obsession.

City of Jackals (Bengali)

A middle-aged man, who has almost given up on life, lays his hands on a bag of cash. He starts dreaming about the luxurious life he never had — a big mansion and the woman he loves by his side. But the bag of money brings with it a series of troubles. He is gripped by fear and begins to suspect everyone around him, ending up with no friends. Inadvertently, he gets caught in an unfavourable situation which makes his life miserable.
