“I’m trying to find out the truth and there’s nothing wrong with that,” says Bhumi Pednekar’s investigative journalist, who uses every ounce of her strength to investigate the abuse of young girls at a shelter, in the trailer of Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment’s upcoming crime thriller Bhakshak.

Shared by Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday, the two-minute-38-second-long trailer introduces Bhumi’s Vaishali Singh whose relentless pursuit of truth, often against her family’s wishes, lands her in trouble. The journalist stirs up a hornet’s nest when she decides to look into the exploitation of girls at a local shelter in Uttar Pradesh’s Munawwarpur. C. I.D. star Aditya Srivastava plays the crooked owner of the shelter.

With the help of her acquaintance Mr Bhaskar, Vaishali fights for the rights of the girls at the shelter even when her colleagues try to persuade her to leave the case as it may rile up influential people. Her single-mindedness came to impact her family life as her husband Arvind (Surya Sharma) points out that she has been handling the case personally rather than professionally.

“Do you still consider yourself a human, or are you a predator (bhakshak)?” the trailer ends with Vaishali directly posing this question to the audience.

Bhumi, too, shared the trailer on her Instagram handle. “Insaan ya Bhakshak? Samay aa chuka hai chun ne ka!! #Bhakshak a film inspired by true events, releasing on 9th February, only on Netflix,” the 34-year-old actress wrote in the caption.

Inspired by true events, the direct-to-digital crime thriller will hit Netflix on February 9, the production banner announced on Tuesday with a poster of the film.

Helmed by Pulkit, Bhakshak is Red Chillies Entertainment’s first digital production after the 2022 film Darlings starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma. The crime thriller also features Sanjay Mishra and Sai Tamhankar in key roles.
