Pop star Beyoncé dropped two new country-themed singles — Texas Hold 'Em and 16 Carriages — shortly after she teased the release of Part II of her 2022 album Renaissance in a Verizon advertisement during Super Bowl 2024 on February 12.

The singer-songwriter also shared the songs on her Instagram. “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and 16 CARRIAGES out now,” the 32-time Grammy-winning singer wrote in the caption.

Dominated by acoustic guitars and bass drums, Texas Hold ’Em abounds in references to country bars and the Texas heat.

Opening with the refrain “Sixteen carriages drivin' away/ While I watch them ride with my dreams away,” 16 Carriages, on the other hand, feels more autobiographical, charting the 42-year-old singer’s journey to success.

The first teaser video shared by Beyonce during the Super Bowl game shows her trying to “break records on the internet” by selling lemonade, serving tweaked versions of her name, including ‘Bar-bey’ and ‘BOTUS’, and launching a rocket for the first musical performance in space. However, when all attempts fail, the Irreplaceable singer signs off, saying, “Ok be ready, drop the new music.”

The second teaser video, vividly capturing the country landscape, hinted at the release of Texas Hold ‘Em. The video also features a billboard and a car licence plate referencing the poker game named after the singer’s home state.

On June 20, 2022, the singer had dropped the first single, Break My Soul, from Renaissance Part I. At that time, she had revealed on her website that the album would be a trilogy.

Renaissance Part I had paid homage to the black community. Speculations about the second part being entirely country-themed were rife after the Halo singer showed up at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 5 in a cowboy-inspired outfit.

Beyonce announced the Renaissance World Tour in February last year. In November, she went on to release a documentary concert film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.

Renaissance Part II will reportedly drop on March 29.
