Eddie Murphy reprises his iconic role of Detective Axel Foley in the teaser of Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth instalment of the cop drama franchise, promising a heady mix of action and buddy cop humour.

Dropped by the streamer on Thursday, the one-minute-33-second-long teaser begins with Eddie’s Detroit cop Axel being questioned by Kevin Bacon’s Captain Grant at a Beverly Hills police station. It then cuts to action-packed scenes where Axel protects his daughter from criminals while the iconic Beverly Hills Cop theme song plays in the background. The teaser also reminds fans of Axel’s “fish-out-of-water” scenario as he is a Detroit cop who yet again finds himself embroiled in the crime world of Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will bring back Axel to Beverly Hills after his daughter, played by Taylour Paige, finds her life at risk. The father-daughter duo will team up with Axel’s new partner, Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to raise the stakes and expose a conspiracy.

The film’s director Mark Molloy recently said at a Netflix Tudum that some of the funniest moments in Axel F happen because of Murphy’s improvisation. “For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment, cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best,” added the Australian filmmaker.

Produced by Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, who had also co-produced the first two films in the series, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is slated to release on Netflix in 2024. However, the exact date has not been revealed.
