Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz seeks the help of the ghost played by Michael Keaton to save her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) from an evil entity in the second trailer of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the Tim Burton-directed 1988 comedy-horror movie.

Dropped by Warner Bros. Pictures on Thursday, the two-minute-26-second-long trailer shows the new misadventures of Lydia and Astrid in the afterlife. It begins by showing Astrid as an outcast at high school just as her mother was as a teenager. Enraged by a prank pulled off by mean and popular girls, Astrid retorts harshly, leaving everyone shocked.

Meanwhile, Lydia needs to summon Beetlejuice in order to save Astrid from the Neitherworld after the latter tried to summon her unknowingly. However, this time, Beetlejuice teams up with Lydia as they both have a common enemy. It seems that both Lydia and Beetlejuice need to fight an evil entity, played by Monica Bellucci, who shares a rocky past with the ghost.

The 1988 film revolved around Barbara and Adam Maitland’s ghosts haunting their former home after dying in a car accident. When the Deetz family moves in, the Maitlands seek the help of the mischievous Beetlejuice to scare them away. But the plan results in chaos as Beetlejuice turns rogue. Ultimately, the Maitland ghosts and the Deetz family seek Lydia’s help to outsmart Beetlejuice and find a way to peacefully coexist with each other in the house.

“After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem,” reads the official synopsis of the film by the makers.

Also starring Willem Dafoe and Justin Theroux, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is slated to release in theatres on September 6.
