This year’s Venice Film Festival kicked off with the premiere of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on Wednesday. The cast, including Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe, attended the event and posed for photographers on the red carpet. Here’s a look.
Winona Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz in the sequel to Burton’s 1988 comedy horror Beetlejuice. Putting on a cropped blazer over a tailored white shirt, the actress was present at the premiere in a matching waistcoat and a black tulle skirt.
Jenna Ortega, who plays Lydia’s daughter Astrid, turned heads in a tulle cut-out red dress with a backless design and spaghetti straps inspired by Winona’s character’s wedding dress from the original movie, which also starred Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Catherine O’Hara.
Ryder and Ortega, who play a mother-daughter duo in the new movie, posed together on the red carpet.
Michael Keaton looked dapper in a prussian blue tuxedo that he wore over a matching shirt. A bowtie completed his look for the evening.
Willem Dafoe twinned with Keaton at the event. The Kinds of Kindness actor portrays the role of Wolf Jackson, a ghost detective who used to be an action movie star when he was alive, in the film.
Catherine O’Hara looked gorgeous in an Oscar de la Renta gown made from black leather and featuring floral embellishments. The outfit is inspired by Beetlejuice’s character and is reportedly to have been designed in India.
Tim Burton, who has helmed the original as well as the upcoming film, twinned in black with his partner Monica Bellucci. Bellucci plays the role of Delores, Beetlejuice’s ex-wife who is a mysterious woman with unfinished business with the ghost.
Justin Theroux looked dapper in a cream blazer worn atop a crisp white button-up shirt. The actor, who plays the role of Lydia’s fiance Rory in the film, attended the event with his girlfriend Nicole Brydon.
The entire cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice posed for a group photograph with Burton and Bellucci.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice received a three-minute standing ovation from the audience at the film festival.
