BBC Studios has partnered with British production banner All3Media to adapt the latter’s two highly-acclaimed dramas — Shameless and Strangers — for Indian audiences, revealed BBC Studios India Production general manager Sameer Gogate on Wednesday.

“We are excited to partner with All3Media to bring the popular Shameless and Strangers Indian audiences. They are two brilliant dramas, very different in tone but both equally suited to the local market who enjoy clever, captivating storylines. With viewers’ preferences evolving and their desire for compelling content growing, we are confident that these unique shows will be a hit with Indian audiences,” Gogate mentioned in a statement posted on LinkedIn.

BBC Studios Production India has an impressive track record for adapting foreign shows in India. Their repertoire of work includes shows like Criminal Justice, Out of Love, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, and Dead Pixels.

Shameless, an urban dark comedy drama originally created by Paul Abbott and Company Pictures for Channel 4, revolves around the extraordinary Gallagher family and their unconventional lives. Amidst the challenges of adolescence and the allure of first love, the show weaves together exciting escapades, triumphs and a hint of criminality within a dilapidated housing estate.

Strangers, also titled White Dragon, is a gripping crime drama created by Mark Denton, Jonny Stockwood, Marston Bloom, Harry & Jack Williams for ITV UK. It follows Professor Jonah Mulray, who is devastated by the tragic death of his wife in a car accident in Hong Kong. As he decides to visit Hong Kong, he unravels a shocking revelation about his late wife and gets entangled in a web of conspiracy.

Sabrina Duguet, executive vice President for APAC, All3Media International, said, “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with BBC Studios which will further establish our footprint in India. BBC Studios India Production shares our production values and our love for top quality drama and we know they will adapt these two dramas brilliantly for the Indian market.”
