Batman is set to become the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 26, the official Instagram page of the landmark announced on Wednesday.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor our first superhero on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! The one, the only, Batman,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “Fans from around the world will be thrilled to know that Batman will have his star dedicated next to the stars of television’s Batman, Adam West, and the co-creator of Batman, Bob Kane.”

The event will be attended by DC Comics’ president, publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee, and senior vice president and general manager Anne DePies. Steve Nissen, president and CEO of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will host the event.

Batman, created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. It was first adapted into a TV series in 1966 featuring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. The series became even more popular when its theme song, created by Neal Hefti, won a Grammy award for best instrumental theme.

Hefti’s track sparked a cover battle on the Billboard Hot 100 as the original version reached No. 35 but a cover version by the instrumental band The Marketts made it to No. 17.

Some of the other iconic portrayals of the superhero include Michael Keaton’s dark take in the Tim Burton-directed films, Christian Bale’s gritty version in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Robert Pattinson’s recent depiction in The Batman (2022).

A new 10-episode animated Batman series from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves titled Batman: Caped Crusader premiered on Prime Video in August.

Batman: Caped Crusader follows the events of the Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series, which was co-created by Bruce Timm along with Bob Kane, Bill Finger and others. It had 85 episodes and aired on Fox channel from 1992 to 1995.
