Bappi Lahiri is no more - I woke up to a news that shook me no bounds. Having grown up on his music, it is still taking time to sink in.

With the demise of Disco King, the loss to the Indian music industry would be irreparable. But honestly speaking, I am averse to the tag of Disco King associated with Bappida.

If we meticulously assess his musical journey, our all-time favourite has delved into a plethora of genres that has left an indelible imprint on our mind and heart. Yes, it would be unfair to confine Bappi Lahiri's epitaph to only the Disco genre - he was adept at romance, peppy tracks and even ghazals that took him to unprecedented heights.

Here are ten of my favourite Bappida tracks that truly justify his standing as a versatile musician.

Aao tumhen chaand pe le jaaye

Picturised on Sunil Dutt and Asha Parekh, this track was one of Bappida's earlier hits that signalled his entry into the Hindi film industry. The emotions exuded by Asha while lip synching to Lataji's immortal voice are unparalleled.

Aa na jana laga rahega

Picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, the song reverberates because of the pain the two on-screen lost brothers express. A track which must figure on Bappida's Top Ten list.

Trust us, even Amitabh Bachchan would rate it as one of his best. Impeccable composition by a man who took to music like a fish in water and coupled with Kishoreda's voice, the song is immortal - period.

Kisi nazar ko tera intezar aaj bhi hai

Picturised on Suresh Oberoi, Dimple Kapadia and Raj Babbar, the song is all about unrequited love that Oberoi expresses for Dimple. Shot at picturesque locales, Bhupinder and Asha pumped in evey drop of emotion to the song beyond doubt.

Pyar humara amar rahega

Now, here we go - Mithunda and Bappida shared excellent rapport having churned innumerable hits but this one picturised on Mithun and Jaya Prada stands out in the crowd. With Indeevar penning the lyrics, the track is a big hit on Instagram too which just lends credence to its popularity.

Raat baaqi baat baaqi

Bappida and Ashaji have together given us some of the most memorable numbers in the history of the Hindi film industry, and this one picturised on Parveen Babi and Shashi Kapoor with Amitabh Bachchan also in the frame, is one of the most-talked about. Unflinching control over tune combined with Bappida's signature style - this one is part of folklore.

Dil mein ho tum

Critics would say it is Bappida's best and it would be hard to disagree. But many would say, he has had better compositions in his kitty. However, this one sung separately by Bappida and S Janaki and picturised on Vinod Khanna and Anita Raj can never be ignored.

Yaad aa raha hai

It is B Subhash's directorial Disco Dancer that started a new trend in Bollywood and also rejuvenated Mithunda's career. It also marked the debut of disco music in the Hindi film industry.
