Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk compete to prove who is the better father after Triptii Dimri gets diagnosed with heteropaternal superfecundation in the trailer of Dharma Productions’ upcoming romcom Bad Newz.

Dropped by the makers on Friday, the two-minute-57-second-long trailer opens with Triptii Dimri confessing to Neha Dhupia that she is uncertain about the identity of her unborn baby's father. Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk’s characters are revealed as the possible father. But the situation intensifies when Dr Baweja (Gaurav Manwani) diagnoses it as a case of heteropaternal superfecundation, a situation where two ovaries are fertilised during the same menstrual cycle by different partners.

The subsequent scenes depict Ammy and Vicky competing to prove who would be the better father, engaging in humorous exchanges and physical challenges like pushups and basketball. In one scene, as Ammy tries to tear down a poster of Katrina Kaif, Vicky quips, “Yaha toh meri lash se guzarke jana hoga (You'll have to get past my dead body here),” alluding to his real-life love story with Katrina.

The trailer then shows glimpses of celebrations, including a wedding, and a scene where Triptii lies unconscious on a hospital bed. It also features a remake of Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan’s 1998 song Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam from the movie Duplicate featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre.

Backed by the makers of Raj Mehta’s Good Newwz (2019), Bad Newz is directed by Anand Tiwari. Touted as “a comedy based on true events”, the film is produced by Amazon Prime in association with Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective.

Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari serve as the producers, while the screenplay is developed by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja.

Bad Newz wrapped up shooting last year and was originally titled Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam. The film is slated to hit the screens on July 19.
