Bad Newz mints Rs 8.62 crore on Day 1, emerges as fifth highest Hindi opener of 2024

Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk-starrer Bad Newz, which released in theatres on Friday, opened with Rs 8.62 crore nett, said Dharma Productions in a social media post on Saturday.

This positions Anand Tiwari’s romantic comedy as the fifth highest Hindi opening day grosser of 2024. The Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD tops the list with a collection of Rs 23.5 crore nett, followed by Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter with Rs 22.5 crore nett. Akshya Kumar and Tiger-Shroff-starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan features next on the list with a collection of Rs 15.5 crore nett. Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan, which earned Rs 14.2 crore nett on Day 1, occupies the fourth spot.

Bad Newz marks the biggest opening for Vicky Kaushal to date, surpassing his previous best with Uri: The Surgical Strike (Rs 8.2 crore nett).

The Vicky Kaushal-starrer is facing competition at the box office from Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, which has entered its fourth week. With a collection of Rs 2.65 crore nett, the dystopian thriller surpassed the Rs 600-crore milestone on Friday, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time in India.

The current top four highest-grossing films in India are Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1020.42 crore nett), KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 859.7 crore), RRR (Rs 782.2 crore) and Jawan (Rs 640 crore).
