Dream Girl 2 is a messy, massy comedy of errors film with a few points to appreciate. Following the success of its predecessor, the sequel brings back the bold and charming Pooja in an all-new avatar but also brings in a package of flaws. The film comprises some witty one-liners, references to old classic films and some ribtickling jokes which eventually lose their charm towards the second half. The plot was poorly conceived which reduced it to a pedestrian comedy making it unbearable. The only plus point of Dream Girl 2 is the galaxy of actors who have specialised in the comedy genre showcasing their impressive talent within their limited screen time. Ayushmann Khurrana deserves applause for his hard work and dedication, evident throughout the two-hour film. In short, Dream Girl 2 was a disappointment for me. Watch it at your own risk. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, Dream Girl 2 has outdone the 2019 version by a wide margin. Ayushmann Khurrana pads up, dons blingy ghagra-cholis and a long-haired wig to transform into a girl. Disguised as a girl, he performs a complicated charade to win back his girlfriend.
The twists and turns are hilarious, the one-liners are guffawworthy, and we get to see stalwarts like Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Vijay Raaz. Not to mention Ayushmann Khurrana himself, dancing to several numbers and storming the female domain.
Ananya Panday is yet to learn the ropes of emoting. Seema Pahwa is a surprise package. Abhishek Banerjee is just about okay in a small role and we get to see the legendary Asrani in a bit role too. Overall, a good entertainer. Pampa Paul
Dream Girl 2 is just a messy comedy drama. The script is too weak and there is no funny story. The movie just flows with its chirpy dialogues. Dialogues elicit laughs but create some moments that look disconnected. Why did Pooja/ Karam (Ayushmann Khurrana) take a huge loan from a bank and every other person? Why was Abu Saleem’s (Paresh Rawal) family invited to Pari’s (Ananya Panday) wedding? There are many loopholes like these that are not explained.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance as Pooja is breezy and refreshing. His female voice is especially out of this world. His male co-stars also deliver delightful performances and support his character nicely. For me, Dream Girl 2 is just a time-pass movie and a one-time watch. Sarbani Banerjee
Dream Girl 2 is audacious, unapologetic and entertaining. The story is fine and well-intended. It makes you laugh out loud, there are some witty one-liners, clever jokes and references to some other films. At a little more than two hours, there is never a dull moment. This time, the plot revolves around Karam and his girlfriend, played by Ananya Panday, dealing with a financial situation that prevents them from getting married. But because its premise can’t be so linear, the story has many subplots and characters that cross paths in some hilarious ways.
Ayushmann — whether as Karam or Pooja — is too good to be true. In his portions as Pooja, and thankfully there are a lot of them, he is just stunning. From his body language and make-up to dance moves and his ability to talk in a feminine voice, he just leaves you charmed. I’m glad he never makes cross-dressing vulgar, barring a few scenes that were written in a shoddy manner, yet performed decently. It might not be among his best work, but is definitely challenging by all means. He’s the hero we’ve mostly seen doing films with a social message and we hoped there would be some surprise here, too. Given his mettle to make even the shoddiest of scripts somewhat palatable, Ayushmann goes for the kill as Pooja. Everything from his voice to his walk to the flutter of his eyelids is impeccable.
Equally impressive is his lucid switch from Pooja to Karam. The overall experience of watching Pooja in her true element getting caught up in some crazy situations is quite fun. The jokes and gags (the Gadar 2 and BTS reference) are witty and some are downright funny. Ayushmann is why you will go to watch the film in the first place and he doesn’t disappoint. Roshni Ojha
I liked Dream Girl 2 because it entertained me throughout, literally from beginning to end. The story was hilarious and made the film a fun watch. The movie was full of funny dialogue (of them many were witty one-liners and clever jokes) and director Raaj Shaandilyaa used them in perfect situations. Ayushmann Khurrana was just amazing and the actor should be lauded for how stunningly he played his two avatars, Karam and Pooja.
Ayushmann won my heart with his outstanding and charming performance. I also liked Ananya Panday’s act as Pari, although unfortunately, the pretty and talented actress got little scope to perform. I also enjoyed the acts of Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Seema Pahwa and Vijay Raaz. All these actors supported Ayushmann well. It is really a well-made sequel and I loved every moment of this film, just like its 2019 predecessor. Sourish Misra
