Ayushmann Khurrana’s comedy drama Dream Girl 2 remained steady at the box office over the weekend, earning almost as much as Sunny Deol’s blockbuster Gadar 2, an action drama that has already breached the Rs 450-crore mark, according to trade reports.
Raaj Shaandilyaa-directed Dream Girl 2 raked in Rs 13.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 15.5 crore on Sunday, as per Box Office India figures. On the other hand, Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, earned Rs 13.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 16.25 crore on Sunday.
Also featuring Utkarsh Sharma, Manish Wadhwa and Simratt Kaur in key roles, Gadar 2 is on the verge of becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time — a record currently held by Shah Rukh Khan’s action entertainer Pathaan. The film’s total collection now stands at Rs 451.5 crore.
Dream Girl 2 also stars Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Asrani, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh and Seema Pahwa. The successful weekend takes the film’s total collection so far to Rs 39.25 crore nett.
According to box office reports, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer OMG 2 and Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher’s Ghoomer couldn’t match up the craze for Gadar 2 and Dream Girl 2.
