Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo “assembled” on a video call on Friday to endorse Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for the upcoming US Presidential Election that pits her against former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump.
On Friday, Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in the blockbuster franchise, shared a video on Instagram that featured him alongside Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Paul Bettany (Vision), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Don Cheadle (War Machine) brainstorming a campaign slogan to support Harris.
“It is our pleasure to come together and to get the vote out this election,” Danai Gurira said in the video, proposing the rallying cry ‘Kamala Forever’ in a nod to Black Panther war cry Wakanda Forever.
Each actor contributed creative phrases inspired by their iconic characters. Evans suggested, “I can do this all day” but was shut down by his peers. Bettany suggested “Boom” in a nod to Iron Man 2. Ultimately, they settled on the slogan, “I’m Kamala Harris, and I’m down with democracy”.
Downey shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “Let’s #AssembleForDemocracy !!!” and tagged both Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.
Mark Ruffalo shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “We're back. Let's #AssembleForDemocracy. In the #ElectionEndgame, every vote counts #VoteBlue! Vote @KamalaHarris @Tim_Walz.”
“Don’t sit this one out. It’s the one where we will lose big: Project 2025, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, public education, student debt relief, Affordable Care Act, Social Security, and as of today, life-saving vaccines. This shit is real and it’s going to come for you. Take 3 friends and know, no matter what you are a hero. Always give it all,” he added.
Kamala Harris has been a favourite among Hollywood celebs, who have supported her campaign through donations, public appearances and social media endorsements. Her growing roster of star supporters includes Taylor Swift, Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyoncé, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eminem, Andy Cohen, Madonna, Ben Stiller and Jennifer Lawrence.
