Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle is set to make her acting debut with filmmaker Sandeep Singh’s The Pride of Bharat - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the veteran singer announced on social media on Monday.

@ZanaiBhosle joining the cinema world in the upcoming grand epic #ThePrideofBharat Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” the 90-year-old singer wrote alongside a video from an event where Sandeep asked Zanai to accept her role in the film.

Extending her best wishes to Zanai and Sandeep, Asha added, “I sincerely hope that she claims her destined position in cinematic history and wish her and @thisissandeeps all the very best.”

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a 17th-century Indian warrior-king and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan who founded the Maratha Empire. Zanai, who is said to be a descendent of Shivaji, will essay the role of his wife, Rani Sai Bhonsale, in the film.

Welcoming Zanai into the team, Sandeep wrote on X, “With profound honour we welcome @ZanaiBhosle into the kingdom of 'The Pride Of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj' as Rani Sai Bhonsale, Shivaji Maharaj's wife, who contributed immensely to his life as a king and a human being.”

Expressing his gratitude towards Zanai, he added, “Zanai becomes a voice that history itself has chosen for a film that connects us to the true resilience and valour of her ancestors.”

The Pride of Bharat - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is currently under production and is slated to release in theatres in 2026.

The film marks both Sandeep and Zanai’s debut as a filmmaker and an actress, respectively. It is presented by Immerso Studio and Legend Studios.
