Arunoday Singh is back in his hot-headed cop avatar in Apharan Season 2 after a hiatus of four years, looking buff and blunt as ever. This time, he has another mission to accomplish — another bad guy, who happens to be an internationally wanted drug lord, to tame.

The latest season of Apharan is streaming on Voot Select. Apart from Arunoday, the 11-episode season, produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Santosh Singh, also features Nidhi Singh, Sanand Verma and Snehil Dixit Mehra.

Here’s why you should watch Apharan Season 2.

It’s fun watching Arunoday in a double role

As expected, Rudra (played by Arunoday) is back, picking up the thread from the first season finale where he was reinstated as a cop after a brief spell of suspension. In this season, Rudra has been given the responsibility of busting a drug racket. He faces off international criminal Bikram Bahadur Shah, who turns out to be Rudra’s doppelganger (played by Arunoday again!) and a cold-blooded criminal.

In his double role, Arunoday keeps switching between Rudra and Bikram with such elan that you’ll never really know who’s who most of the time.

Return of the meme-queen

Hold your breath, for Gillauri, aka BC Aunty, makes a grander comeback in the latest season. Played by social media comedian Snehil Dixit Mehra, Gillauri’s comic timing and tangy dialogue have been spot on. A punchline delivered by Gillauri in Season 1 exploded as a meme on social media.

In the new season, you’ll see Gillauri, originally portrayed as a simple village woman who marvels at slang words used by other people, showing a more spunky side. She accompanies Rudra on his mission to bust the drug ring and never wastes an opportunity to poke fun at the cop’s bluntness. Gillauri is shot dead by Vikram’s cronies this season, though she refuses to die before literally having the last laugh.

Cliffhanger ending lays down the premise for Season 3

If the previous season was all about Rudra and his wife’s relationship through different situations, the second season is more of a cat-and-mouse chase between cop and criminal, bringing in more twists and turns.

By the end of Season 2, following a boss battle between Rudra and Bikram, we cannot even be sure which of Arunoday’s characters made it out alive. This twist at the tail actually lays the backdrop for a more action-packed Season 3, leaving multiple options and loose ends to unravel.
