Jason Momoa’s Aquaman teams up with his Atlantean half-brother Orm Marius and mobilises an army to protect underwater kingdoms from the vindictive Black Trident-wielding Black Manta in the trailer of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, dropped by DC on Thursday late night.

The two-minute-46-second-long trailer shows Momoa’s Arthur Curry talking about his journey of becoming Aquaman and the King of Atlantis from being a jobless, homeless wanderer. We see him taking care of his baby and embracing his new family above sea level as well as his underwater kingdom.

The clip shows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, who wants to avenge his father’s death by taking down Aquaman once and for all. Manta now wields the powerful mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman turns to his imprisoned brother Patrick Wilson’s Orm Marius, the former King of Atlantis.

As they engage in a fierce battle, Arthur’s family living above the sea surface is also drawn into this conflict when they come under attack by menacing underwater creatures. Amber Heard’s character Mera, who is the Queen of Atlantis and the wife of Aquaman, is missing from the trailer.

Directed by James Wan, who directed the 2018 Aquaman, the film also stars Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman. It is produced by Peter Safran, Wan and Rob Cowan while Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada serve as executive producers.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit the theatres on December 20.
