Anupam Kher to play Rabindranath Tagore in his 538th project, shares first look

The 68-year-old will next be seen in Kangana Ranaut's directorial Emergency

Actor Anupam Kher is set to portray the role of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in his upcoming film, he announced on Saturday, revealing his first look as the poet, philosopher and educationist.

“Delighted to portray #Gurudev #RabindranathTagore in my 538th project. Will reveal the details in due course. It is my fortune that I got the privilege to make Gurudev realised on screen! Will be sharing more details of this film with you soon! 🙌🙏 🫶,” he wrote alongside his first-look photo from the upcoming film on Instagram on Saturday.

In the black-and-white photo, the 68-year-old sports long grey beard and hair and is seen in a robe. An instrumental version of Tagore’s famous song Sokhi, Bhabona Kahare Bole played in the background.

Kher will next be seen in Kangana Ranaut's directorial Emergency in which he’ll portray the role of former Indian politician Jayaprakash Narayan. The film will be released in theatres on November 24.

The actor will also play an important role in director Anurag Basu’s upcoming anthology film Metro In Dino. It also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Konkona Sensharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles and is all set to hit the theatres on March 29, 2024.

Kher is set to reunite with his The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri for his upcoming film The Vaccine War. Reportedly, it revolves around India’s contributions to the race to produce a Covid-19 vaccine during the pandemic.
