Faraaz director Hansal Mehta sat down with fellow filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who is also the producer of the hostage thriller, for a freewheeling chat about all things cinema and how it has evolved in the last two decades.
In a video of the conversation, released by the filmmakers, Anubhav Sinha talked about the changing trends in cinema. “People are infected with the idea that cinema is a business and not an art form. The focus should be on making films; some will do good and some won’t,” he said.
“The general discourse of film as a business has to change. The idea of a weekend film has to change. Weekend movies are no longer an option, and we are not making weekend films,” the Article 15 director added.
Anubhav’s upcoming rollouts include Bheed, which is based on the 2020 national lockdown in India.
Reliving the old days, the duo reminisced about how box office numbers didn't matter back in the day. They cite the example of Aligarh and Shahid to claim that the audience is more interested in honest reviews and real conversations.
Apart from being creative directors, Hansal Mehta and Anubhav Sinha are good friends and are often seen indulging in bantering with each other on social media. The film Faraaz marks their first professional collaboration.
