Marking Rabindranath Tagore’s 82nd death anniversary on August 7, Coke Studio Bangla Season 2’s latest offering is the Rabindrasangeet Anondodhara, sung by Adity Mohsin and Bappa Mazumder.
Set to a modern background score, this is the 11th song from this edition of Coke Studio Bangla. It begins with soft rendition of the tanpura (played by Jannatul Firdous Akbar) and singing bowl (played by Sunidhi Nayak), which coalesces beautifully with the soundscape of the keyboard (played by Pradyut Chatterjea) before Mohsin’s vocals take over. The fusion of traditional and modern instruments adds a unique layer to the composition, infusing it with freshness and innovation.
The reimagined rendition of Anondodhara, arranged and produced by Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, maintains the original melody composed by Tagore on Raga Malkauns. The verses speak of an unending stream of joy and inspiration flowing through the universe and urges one to look beyond one’s own self and be open to it.
Traditional instruments such as the sarod (Sutradhar Arjun) blend seamlessly with trombone (Apurba Mustafa), guitar (Shuvendu Das Shuvo) and viola (Subroto Pramanick). This fusion of sounds adds a contemporary edge without overshadowing the classic elements, beautifully juxtaposing the old with the new.
