Actor Anil Kapoor has heaped praise on Mani Ratnam’s latest release Ponniyin Selvan-II (PS-II), calling it a “gripping drama” with “enchanting music” and brilliant performances by Chiyaan Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The 66-year-old, who voiced the Hindi trailer of Ponniyin Selvan:I, took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank Ratnam for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the magnum opus and shared his review of the film.
“Watching #ManiRatnam’s #PS2 was an exhilarating experience! The gripping drama, enchanting music and epic scale had me hooked from the very start! A special shoutout to #Chiyan who is fantastic, #aishwaryaraibachchan is brilliant in a difficult role…,” Anil wrote, sharing pictures of him with Mani Ratnam and his wife Suhasini Maniratnam.
“@arrahman whose music lifts the film to an epic level, my friend #RaviVarman’s cinematography is the highlight of the film and @ekalakhani who has killed it with the costumes,” his tweet further read.
He concluded, “I am privileged and honoured to be a part of #PS2 in a small way …Congratulations to Mani Ratnam and the entire team for gifting Indian cinema with a real gem!”
Vikram, who plays Aditha Karikalan in the historical action-adventure, was quick to thank Anil for his positive remarks. “Thank you Mr Kapoor. Coming from a stalwart like you means a lot. You so easily made my month,” wrote Vikram.
Previously, Kapoor worked with Mani Ratnam in his Kannada film Anu Pallavi (1983).
Ponniyin Selvan-II also stars Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Prakash Raj. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s five-part novel series of the same name, the film has already grossed over Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office.
