Prime Video India on Tuesday unveiled the trailer for its upcoming original docu-series Angry Young Men, a three-part series exploring the remarkable journey of legendary screenwriter duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, better known as Salim-Javed.

The docu-series marks the directorial debut of Namrata Rao and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide on August 20. “Their story is so inspiring, full of twists and turns, and it has been a great opportunity for me to start my journey as a director. Interacting with Salim and Javed saab has taught me so many things about film writing, about life and dealing with the odds an artiste faces,” the director said in a statement.

The trailer takes a close look at the partnership of Salim-Javed, who revolutionised Indian cinema in the 1970s by introducing the “angry young man”, a representative ideal of the frustrated youth a la Jimmy Porter in John Osborne’s classic play Look Back in Anger. Featuring rare archival footage that delves into the duo’s lives, creative process and camaraderie, it covers their collaboration that lasted across 24 films.

Industry stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Helen, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan appear in the video, talking about the immense impact Salim-Javed had on their careers.

Talking about Angry Young Men, Salim recalled how he had chosen to become a storyteller and met Javed along the way. He also recalled how they challenged industry norms by moving from romance-laden narratives to more realistic settings.

“It feels wonderful that our journey is being documented for future generations, and I hope they will be inspired to do their best and not be confined by society’s prescribed roles. I’m excited for audiences across the world to see our journey unfold on Prime Video,” he said.

Reminiscing about his early days, Javed said he had always wanted to share his story with the world. “The support we have received from our family, friends, and the industry in documenting our journey has been heartening and I would like to thank them all for their love,” he added.

Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, Angry Young Men is executive produced bySalma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.
