“They just gave me a character brief and dialogues to memorise. I did my best and after a few days I was called back for a second audition because they wanted to check if I could do the scenes in a different way to show my versatility,” Amyra said.

“Everyone seemed happy with my performance and Shujaat called me to the office for a narration. I loved what I heard.”

The show revolves around the life of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and captures his early life, the big mob bosses at the time and his gang.

The actress said she had read the book and loved the world of gangsters created by the writers. “This show is adapted from a gripping book which I’ve read and loved. The power-crazed gangsters and world of crime is what interested me the most. It’s set in the 70s and 80s so you get to see a different side to Mumbai, the birth of Mumbai in a way.

“I have never done a period project and the fact that we get to go back in time with this one was magic to my ears. The fact the Excel Entertainment is producing it was the cherry on the cake,” she said, speaking about the 10-episode Season One of the show.
