The makers of Nightnitch, helmed by Marielle Heller, dropped a poster featuring the first look of Amy Adams’ character from the movie on Sunday.

In the poster, the actress looks dishevelled with dirt on her face and wet hair as she gazes at something in the distance with a half smile.

“Motherhood is a bitch. NIGHTBITCH. Starring Amy Adams, written for the screen and directed by Marielle Heller, based on the novel by Rachel Yoder. In theatres this fall,” production banner Searchlight Pictures wrote on X alongside the first look.

Nightbitch is slated to hit theatres on December 6.

Fans flooded the comments section, expressing their excitement for the upcoming film. “If she can pull this one off, she can do anything..which she can,” one of them wrote, while another commented, “This is the perfect movie title I can't wait.”

Nightbitch is an adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s 2001 satirical novel centred on a woman who takes a break from her art career to be a stay-at-home mum. But her new domestic life takes a horrifying turn when she realises that she is slowly turning into a carnivorous animal after having to deal with full-time responsibilities as a mother. Her new feral instincts arise out of her exhausting motherhood routine, especially at night when her two-year-old child would not go to sleep.

Nightbitch director Marielle Heller is known for her 2015 film The Diary of a Teenage Girl and the 2018 crime-comedy Can You Ever Forgive Me. She received an Independent Spirit Award for best first feature in 2016 as well as The Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actress in 2015 for The Diary of a Teenage Girl.

Adams last appeared in Disney’s 2022 musical Disenchanted. The six-time Oscar-winning actress also has Taika Waititi’s film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Klara and the Sun in the pipeline. She will star opposite Jenna Ortega in the film.
