New audio productions of all seven of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books involving over 100 voice actors will premiere on Amazon’s Audible in late 2025, the audiobook and podcast streamer announced on Thursday.
“Attention listeners! A brand-new, full-cast audio performance of #HarryPotter awaits you in late 2025. Prepare for a journey through the mystical world of Hogwarts with an enchanting original score and sound design for an unforgettable experience,” Audible announced on X alongside a teaser video.
The teaser begins with a character chanting the spell “Lumos”, which is used to light up a dark setting. In the next scene, we are transported to a recording studio where volume buttons and mixers are switched on. Subsequently, we are treated to lines spoken by wandmaker Ollivander to Harry, Hermione upon meeting Harry for the first time and Hagrid to Harry about how his life would be at Hogwarts.
The full-cast audio performances will “sit alongside and complement the iconic single-voice English language recordings by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry,” Audible said in a statement. However, it is not clear whether the original cast of the Harry Potter film series, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, will lend their voices to their characters in the audio drama.
Audiobooks of each of the seven titles were earlier narrated by Stephen Fry and Jim Dale, who won the Grammy Award for his audio performance in 2008. Instead of a single narration, the upcoming project will consist of actors lending their voices to the myriad characters of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The audiobooks, set to be created in collaboration with Pottermore Publishing, will have a completely original score and sound design as compared to the soundtrack in the films created by John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat.
“Together with Pottermore Publishing, best-in-class producers, and over one hundred actors, we will introduce a groundbreaking new soundscape for the Wizarding World, as well as performances that will inspire our listeners’ imaginations and redefine these quintessential characters for a new generation,” Audible CEO Bob Carrigan said in a statement.
The complete Harry Potter audiobook collection on Audible includes the seven titles narrated by Dale. It also consists of audiobook versions of the Hogwarts Library collection — The Tales of Beedle the Bard narrated by Jude Law, Harry Potter: A History of Magic narrated by Natalie Dormer, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them narrated by Eddie Redmayne and Quidditch Through the Ages narrated by Andrew Lincoln.
