DC Studios co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first trailer of the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos at San Diego Comic-Con during the Jim Lee and Friends panel on Friday.

The one-minute-and-30-second-long trailer introduces Task Force M, also known as Task Force Monster or Creature Commandos. Amanda Waller has been barred from using humans by Congress but she has a secret establishment, Belle Reeve, where non-human entities are held captive. “For 50 years, only those at the uppermost levels have been aware of its existence,” a voice says in the video.

Though Congress had ended all Task Force X activities, Amanda has been using the non-human prisoners for her experiments.

The Creature Commando characters, a team of military superhumans, were first launched on the page in 1980. The original premise follows Frankenstein’s monster teaming up with a werewolf, vampire and gorgon to fight Nazis in World War II. Gunn’s upcoming TV series adds Weasel, a character from The Suicide Squad (2021) and Rick Flag Sr. as part of the Commandos. Waller is depicted as a formidable, high-ranking government official who employs political connections and intimidation to accomplish her objectives, frequently under the guise of national security.

The voice cast includes David Harbour, Indira Varma, Alan Tudyk, Maria Bakalova, Zoe Chao and Steve Agee. Varma voices the Bride of Frankenstein, Frank Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr., Harbour voices Eric Frankenstein, Chao plays Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn voices G.I. Robot and Tudyk voices Doctor Phosphorus.

Sean Gunn also reprises his role as Weasel from The Suicide Squad, and Viola Davis returns as Waller, a role she has played since 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Scheduled to release in December, Creature Commandos was first announced in January 2023, with Gunn writing all seven episodes for Max.
