Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa 2: The Rule has breached the Rs 50-crore mark in advance booking with 1 million tickets sold on BookMyShow, smashing records set by blockbusters like Kalki 2898 AD, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and K.G.F.: Chapter 2 in pre-sales, according to latest trade reports.
Over 1 million tickets for the film have already been sold on BookMyShow, the platform announced on X on Monday.
With this, Pushpa 2 has become the fastest film to sell 1 million tickets on BookMyShow, Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow, said in a statement. Pushpa 2 will reportedly have the highest ticket prices for any Telugu film after the Andhra Pradesh government announced a special ticket price hike ahead of its December 5 release.
According to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk, the original Telugu version leads the charge in ticket sales, followed by the Hindi version. While Telengana has sold tickets worth over Rs 11 crore, Maharashtra has raked in around Rs 4.49 crore in pre-sales. West Bengal has generated a revenue of Rs 1.76 crore, according to industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.
At the time the report was filed on Tuesday, Pushpa 2 had earned Rs 51.19 crore in pre-sales.
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 is the sequel to Allu’s 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise, which became a massive box-office success across India.
While Allu is set to reprise his role as the titular character Pushpa Raj, Rashmika and Fahadh Faasil will also return as Srivalli and SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, respectively. The trailer, dropped on November 17, promises an epic showdown between Pushpa and SP Shekhawat. The video also teases Pushpa and Srivalli’s on-screen chemistry.
The two-minute-48-second-long trailer further offers a glimpse at actress Sreeleela’s much-talked-about dance number Kissik.
Slated to hit theatres on December 5, Pushpa 2 has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
As per BookMyShow, the film has a three-hour-20-minute runtime.
The music for Pushpa 2: The Rule has been scored by Devi Sri Prasad, while Miroslaw Kuba Brozek has handled the cinematography.
The original film, Pushpa: The Rise, starred Allu as Pushpa Raj, a lorry driver rising through the ranks of a red sandalwood smuggling syndicate. Rashmika played Pushpa’s love interest, Srivalli, a milk seller whom he married towards the end of the film. Released on December 17, 2021, the film grossed approximately Rs 350 crore worldwide, thereby emerging as the highest-grossing Indian film of that year.
