Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 becomes fastest film to cross Rs 500 crore in India

Directed by Sukumar, the sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise has amassed Rs 529.45 crore nett in domestic collections

Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule set the Indian box office ablaze in its opening weekend, collecting a whopping Rs 529.45 crore nett in India and over Rs 800 crore gross worldwide in four days, as per industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk.

Pushpa 2 opened with a record-breaking Rs 10.65 crore nett from preview shows in Telugu and Rs 164.25 crore nett on its December 5 release. It maintained strong momentum, earning Rs 93.8 crore nett on Day 2, Rs 119.25 crore nett on Day 3, and Rs 141.5 crore nett on its fourth day.

Pushpa 2 has shown strong appeal across linguistic demographics. Its Hindi-dubbed version emerged as a significant contributor, collecting Rs 258.7 crore nett, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 198.55 crore nett. The Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions earned Rs 31.1 crore nett, Rs 3.55 crore nett and Rs 10.55 crore nett, respectively, according to Sacnilk.

Additionally, the film set a new benchmark for Hindi cinema, becoming the first movie to achieve a net collection of over Rs 80 crore nett in a single day. The Hindi version made Rs 85 crore nett on its first Sunday alone.

Beyond India, Pushpa 2 has shown promise on the international stage. In North America, the film grossed USD 6.8 million across 1,245 theatres in its first three days (December 6-8), ranking fourth in the weekend box office, just behind Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator 2. However, it edged past Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which grossed USD 4.4 million from its IMAX re-release in 165 theatres.

Pushpa 2: The Rule continues the story of Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun), a red sandalwood smuggler struggling to gain respect from his estranged family while battling his adversary, police officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil). Rashmika Mandanna reprises her role as Srivalli, Pushpa's wife.
