How often have we wished for the world to end, whether it is because we have had a bad day or things might be getting too much? Well, in Doom At Your Service, Tak Dong-kyung does the same. But she ends up getting way more than she bargained for. Sprinkled with amazing chemistry and with captivating second leads, this K-drama promises an engaging time.

Tak Dong-kyung (Park Bo-young) loves to drown herself in her work. So much so that when she gets diagnosed with glioblastoma and is advised to take tests, she wants to set the appointment according to her office schedule. But deep down, she is worried, scared and unable to cry. Having lost her parents at a young age, with a younger brother left behind, she has long learnt to bottle up her tears. On the day of her diagnoses, however, she bursts out in another way, she asks for doom upon the world.

While that might seem like a fairly typical response, her prayers are heard by the literal personification of doom, Myul Mang (played Seo In-guk; ‘myulmang’ in Korean means doom and destruction) who comes knocking at Dong-kyung’s door. He informs her that she would be dying in a 100 days and it is going to be very painful. However, if she agrees to a deal with him, he will ease her pain. But the deal is far more complicated and involves way more than just the two of them.

On the other hand, Dong-kyung’s best friend as well as work colleague, Na Ji-na (Shin Do-hyun) is swept up in a love triangle between her ex-boyfriend Lee Hyun-gyu (Kang Tae-oh) and the guy she has a crush on, Cha Joo-ik (Lee Soo-hyuk). While the kind and warm Hyun-gyu is seemingly a safer and nostalgic choice, Ji-na is not over the hurt he had caused. At the same time, things with Joo-ik are not clear. To add to her troubles, Hyun-gu and Joo-ik are also close friends.

What the K-drama lacks for in worldbuilding, it makes up with phenomenal on-screen chemistry between the characters. Although the second leads’ love triangle seems to be a story of the same-old, its treatment is mature and refreshing. Myul Mang and Dok-kyung’s romance doesn’t bloom from the get-go and neither is it smooth-riding, which raises the audience’s investment in them. Complemented by picturesque frames and haunting OSTs, the K-drama makes for a perfect watch at any time.
