Kanchan Mullick, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Ridhima Ghosh, Mithu Chakrabarty, Soumendra Bhattacharya and Sourav Saha star in the May 19 film Tenida And Company. The film is based on Narayan Gangopadhyay’s iconic character Tenida. Tenida, Kyabla, Pyala and Habul have grown a bit older. They visit Darjeeling for a holiday where they get into serious trouble.
“For Bengalis, literature is a cherished legacy, and the opportunity to see their beloved characters brought to life on the silver screen is a rare treat. Moreover, nostalgia is a potent force in Bengali culture, and Tenida and Company offers a splendid opportunity for viewers to relive their childhoods and indulge in the delightful silliness of youth. This film will transport audiences to a simpler time, a more innocent era devoid of the stresses of modern life. It is an innocuous, unpretentious film that extols the virtues of friendship and kindness. It is an innocent film. It is as simple as cinema can get for me,” said director Sayantan Ghosal.
Tenida and Company is a comedy-adventure film, a cinematic adaptation of the original novel Jhaubangalow r Rohoshho by Narayan Gangopadhyay. “The charming quartet, ‘Charmurti’ of Tenida, Kyabla, Pyala and Habul embark on a scenic sojourn in the picturesque town of Darjeeling, only to find themselves caught up in a mysterious adventure that features a labyrinthine plot, unexpected twists and turns, as well as ample moments of mirth and friendship. We have deftly preserved the essential spirit of the original novel and its beloved characters, while simultaneously updating the storyline to better suit the cinematic medium and contemporaneous sensibilities,” adds Sayantan.
Tenida and Company will forever remain Sayantan’s favourite film. “Audiences can expect to be thoroughly entertained by the captivating performances, striking visuals, and exhilarating plot. They will be treated to a veritable feast of mystery, thrill, and humour, all set against the backdrop of the majestic mountains, a location of stunning natural beauty. This is a film for the entire family, a cinematic experience that guarantees a delightful outing with loved ones,” says Sayantan.
