Raima Sen's Aliya Basu struggles to break free from the clutches of two menacing abductors, played by Vinay Pathak and Salim Diwan, in the trailer of Preeti Singh’s upcoming thriller Aliya Basu Gayab Hai, dropped by production house Rehab Pictures on Wednesday.
The one-minute-42-second-long video opens with Raima playing Aliya Basu, the only daughter of industrialist Gautam Basu, who has been abducted for a hefty ransom. Shackled and struggling to break free, Aliya tells the abductors that they have mistaken her for someone else.
A video clip shows Aliya pleading with her father to rescue her from the abductors. When the abductors go to collect the ransom from the agreed spot, they realise it is a hoax and there is no money.
The following scenes are filled with jarring images as Aliya endures gruesome punishment and brutality. Her finger is cleaved in two, she is confined to a room, and sexually exploited. The trailer ends with a gun-wielding Aliya fighting her adversaries and letting out a scream.
“Ex-convicts Deepak Kumar and Vikram Singh abduct Aliya Basu, a rich man’s daughter, for a huge ransom. But, Vikram is unaware that Deepak has a different plan,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
Touted as “the most twisted thriller of the season”, Aliya Basu Gayab Hai is produced by Dr. Sattar Diwan, Jonu Rana and Dr. D.J. Zawar. The film is slated to hit theatres on August 9.
