Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt and British-Indian actor Dev Patel have made it to TIME magazine's list of 100 Most Influential People of 2024, the American news magazine announced on Wednesday.
“See everyone who made the 2024 TIME100 list. Explore the full list at the link in our bio,” TIME Magazine wrote alongside a video on Instagram.
Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, actor Jeffrey Wright, James McBride, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Fantasia Barrino and Colman Domingo, Hayao Miyazaki, Michael J. Fox, Taraji P Henson, Sofia Coppola and Elliot Page also feature on the list.
Alia, who made her Hollywood debut with Tom Harper’s Heart of Stone last year alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, took to Instagram and expressed her gratitude. “Honoured to be a part of the #TIME100 @time 🫶
Thank you dearest #TomHarper for your kind kind words,” she wrote alongside a portrait of her by TIME Magazine.
“She is not only one of the world’s leading actors, admired for her work in the Indian film industry for over a decade—she is also a businesswoman and a philanthropist who leads with integrity,” Heart of Stone director Tom Harper wrote about Alia for TIME Magazine.
Mentioning his favourite moment from directing Alia in Heart of Stone, Harper wrote, “Alia’s superpower is her ability to mix movie-star magnetism with authenticity and sensitivity.” Harper called Alia an “international star” who is “luminous” as an actor and “brings the grounded assurance and creativity” as a person.
For Dev, who recently made his directorial debut with Monkey Man, Get Out and Nope actor Daniel Kaluuya wrote, “Dev radiates goodness. His humanity shines through every time he graces the screen, leaving you no choice but to root for him even when his character is doing something foul; his presence makes you understand where he’s coming from.”
Adding that Dev’s performance in Monkey Man is his favourite, Kaluuya wrote, “Giving us a fierce, soulful empathy, a channelled rage, shades of him we have yet to see—knowing he was so into martial arts during Skins, he’s brought it all together.”
