Walking up to the stage to be felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu at the 69th National Film Awards ceremony in Delhi on Tuesday, Alia Bhatt made a major statement on recycling clothes and sustainable fashion by wearing her wedding sari on the special occasion.

Alia, who received the Best Actress award for her performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi, looked resplendent in the ivory Sabyasachi sari and was accompanied by actor-husband Ranbir Kapoor.

‘A special day calls for a special outfit. And sometimes... that outfit is already right there. What’s special once can be special again. And again...:) #rewear # reuse #repeat,’ Alia wrote on Instagram to drive home the point.

Alia’s serene look for the National Film Awards Ceremony was curated by her stylist Ami Patel. Celebrity sari draper Dolly Jain wrapped the 30-year-old actress in her wedding sari, with which Alia paired a pearl choker and studs. Makeup artist Mickey Contractor gave her a minimal look with kohl eyes, red bindi and nude lips, while hairstylist Amit Thakur created Alia’s classic French twist bun with two white roses in place.

Looking dapper in a black bandhgala, an overjoyed Ranbir sat in the audience and captured the moments on his mobile phone.

Post-ceremony, Alia, who has recently started shooting for Vasan Bala’s Jigra, happily posed for pictures with Ranbir and other winners such as Kriti Sanon, Allu Arjun and Waheeda Rahman.
