Anurag Kashyap’s Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat was the first film that Alaya F signed, the 25-year-old actress, who made her Bollywood debut with Jawaani Jaaneman in 2020, revealed during the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai on Thursday.

"This was supposed to be my first film. I had signed this film in 2018 before Jawaani Jaaneman," she said.

Alaya plays a double role in the film, which had its world premiere at the Marrakech film festival last year. It also marks the debut of Karan Mehta, who also plays a double role.

The Freddy actress said that she landed the role at a time when she was struggling in the industry and had started to doubt her prospects as an actress in Bollywood. "That's when I met Anurag sir and showed him my showreel of seven minutes. He watched it with full focus. And immediately after that he said, 'I have a film that's perfect for you. Will you do my film?'. That gave me an instant belief in myself because sir (Kashyap) is known for scouting talent and nurturing talent," said Alaya.

The trailer of Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat shows Alaya and Karan as two star-crossed lovers in different settings. "This film challenged me on many levels as an actor. Because Karan and I are playing two different characters, there are a total of four characters in the film. Plus there's Saloni Ammi. So, I have a third character to play. It's been quite an experience,” Alaya added.

Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, produced by Zee Studios and Good Bad Films, will release theatrically on February 3.
