Bollywood celebrities Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, A.R. Rahman and Sonu Nigam are set to perform at the star-studded opening ceremony of the 17th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) tonight at 6:30pm.
“The stage is set, the lights are bright, and the stars are ready to shine at the #TATAIPL 2024 Opening Ceremony! Get ready for an unforgettable fusion of cricket and entertainment ft. a stellar lineup,” IPL’s official Instagram page wrote alongside the announcement recently.
Taking place at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the opening ceremony can be watched live on Star Sports Network or streamed for free on JioCinema.
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff will share the stage for a performance ahead of the release of their actioner Bade Miyan Chote Miyan on April 9. The ceremony will also feature a live performance by Oscar-winning musician A.R. Rahman. Additionally, singer-music director Sonu Nigam, who is gearing up to start his UK Tour with a live show in London on March 29, has been roped in for a performance at the opening ceremony tonight.
In the past, several Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan have performed at the grand opening ceremony of IPL.
This year’s opening match will see last year's champions Chennai Super Kings facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the recent winners of the Women’s Premier League.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, beginning today, is set to conclude on May 26.
