From wielding Shiva’s trident to taking a stand against a psychotic drug lord and performing gravity-defying stunts — the trailer of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming directorial venture Bholaa, dropped on Monday, promises an adrenaline-fuelled action fest.

Apart from donning the director’s hat, Ajay is also essaying the titular role of a Shiva devotee with a violent and tragic past in this Hindi remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 2019 Tamil-language action thriller Kaithi. Ajay’s action avatar and Tabu’s frowning looks make for a compelling duo fighting against a blood-thirsty drug lord played by Deepak Dobriyal.

Bholaa also features Sanjay Mishra, Makarand Deshpande, Gajraj Rao, Mohammad Talib Shah and Sharad Kelkar in key roles. Ajay and Tabu will be seen in their ninth film together here after 2022’s blockbuster Drishyam 2.

Watch the trailer:

The two-minute-33-second-long video gives us glimpses into the dark world of Bholaa. Ajay’s Bholaa is a prisoner of senior police officer Diana Joseph (played by Tabu) and is being transported in a truck to an unknown destination. During the journey, they are attacked by several goons. However, Bholaa stands in their way and lands some punchy dialogue while beating them.

The trailer also sheds light on Bholaa’s past life and shows glimpses of the future that awaits him. Bholaa is shown worshipping Shiva through some rituals. He also uses Shiva’s weapon of choice — the trident — during some action sequences. Tabu has been shown only sporadically throughout the trailer and in one of the scenes she is hit by a bullet but is still fighting on. Deepak Dobriyal’s psychotic, cocaine-sniffing villain looks menacing. At the end of the trailer, we see veteran actor Sanjay Mishra playing a police constable.

The highlight of the trailer has to be the heavily stylised action sequences, especially after the phenomenal success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. From chase sequences to bike stunts and hand-to-hand combat to gun fights, the trailer is filled with high-concept action sequences which are made for 3D viewing.

The film is produced by Ajay Devgan, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, S.R.Prakashbabu and S.R.Prabhu alongside Reliance Entertainment. The screenplay has been adapted by S Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keyan Khan. The action of Bholaa is directed by Ramazan Bulut and R.P. Yadav.

Bholaa will release in 3D and IMAX on March 30.
