WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has launched a new feature that will allow voice messages to be transcribed into text. This feature will help users stay engaged with conversations, regardless of their current activities.

The voice message transcription feature will be rolled out worldwide over the next few weeks, supporting a limited number of languages, with plans to expand to more languages in the coming months.

“Sending a voice message makes connecting with friends and family even more personal. There’s something special about hearing your loved one’s voice even when you’re far away. Though sometimes, you’re on the move, in a loud place, or you receive a long voice message that you just can’t stop and listen.” The company said in a press release.

The new feature is called Voice Message Transcripts, and will be available to both Android and iOS users. This feature is designed to help users for moments on the go, in a loud place, or in a public place.

“To get started, go to Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts to easily turn transcriptions on or off and select your transcript language. You can transcribe a voice message by long pressing on the message and tapping on ‘transcribe’.” The release said.

The device performs the transcription, ensuring the safety of private conversations. Even WhatsApp cannot access these messages.
