Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) embarks on a quest to reclaim her powers after being imprisoned in Westview by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the premiere episodes of Marvel’s Agatha All Along, a spin-off to 2021’s WandaVision, streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Created by Jac Schaeffer, the series picks up from where WandaVision ended, with Agatha, an evil Salem witch, losing all her powers and living as an ordinary Westview resident following her face-off with Wanda. Peppered with light moments, the series delves into themes of manipulation, power and the darker side of magic. Here’s what happens in the first two episodes of Agatha All Along.

Life in Westview

Agatha All Along opens with Agatha being introduced as Agnes, an investigative officer at the Westview Police Department who returns to work after being suspended for punching a suspect. Agatha joins her partner Herb (David Payton) at a crime scene in the woods where she comes across the body of an unidentified woman who died under mysterious circumstances. There is very little evidence but Agatha is determined about solving the case.

Unmasking her real identity

Back in the days, Agatha used to practise dark magic based on forbidden knowledge that she had stolen. After she betrayed her own coven and was caught by her mother Evanora Harkness, the witches tried to kill her. Later Agatha took possession of the Darkhold and used it to enhance her magical powers.

Living under Wanda’s spell for three years, Agatha meets her ex-girlfriend, the FBI agent Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) who tries to jog her memory of who she was. A mysterious teenager (played by Joe Locke) also tried to break into Agatha’s house to save her from Scarlet Witch’s spell. Freed and awake, an enraged Agatha soon realises she needs her powers back. But following a conflict with Rio, Agatha is warned that she will be killed by Salem’s Seven, a group of magically mutated superhumans that Agatha had led in her heydays in witchcraft.

Embarking on the Witches’ Road of Glory

With the help of the mysterious teenager, Agatha forms a coven of witches (played by Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, Ali Ahn and Sasheer Zamata) who set out on the mystical Witches’ Road, a treacherous path filled with magical challenges but which promises to deliver what Agatha has been waiting for. Before hitting the road, Agatha and the women chant their ritual witch song, The Ballad, and after a while a secret doorway opens on the floor just as Salem’s Seven break into the house. Agatha escapes through the tunnel along with her coven and the teenager, stepping into an enchanted forest where they walk barefoot on earth.

The next two episodes will drop on Thursday on Disney+ Hotstar.
