Sara Ali Khan’s young freedom fighter Usha Rani launches an underground radio station to mobilise the youth and unite the nation against colonial rule in the trailer of Dharmatic Entertainment and Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming patriotic film Ae Watan Mere Watan, dropped by the makers on Monday.

The two-minute-52-second-long trailer shows Sara in a never-before-seen avatar of a sari-clad girl from pre-independence India.

Set against the backdrop of the Quit India Movement of 1942, the trailer begins with a scene of a gathering of people inside a house, trying their best to tune a radio and receive the news of the day. It then pans to a scene showing Sara’s Usha creating her own radio in a dimly-lit room in the silence of the night. Usha’s goal is to enlighten people with authentic reports of the daily happenings in the country as opposed to the British-supervised newspapers.

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s words, Usha embarks on her freedom struggle against the wish of her father. The trailer also features lathicharge scenes amidst “do or die” cries.

“The British have robbed us of our ability to think. That’s why you feel only they can rule our country. Why? There are millions of us, Indians. We will rule our own country and we’ll throw out all those who think they’re running our country,” Sara’s character says in the trailer.

The trailer introduces us to Sparsh Shrivastava’s freedom fighter who helps Usha in her fight. However, India’s final fight for freedom is marked by tremendous challenges as the British soon get to know about Usha’s radio and try to hound out those involved.

“A journey that echoes the voice of an unsung hero in the pages of our history. Watch #AeWatanMereWatan trailer - out now. #AeWatanMereWatanOnPrime, Mar 21 only on @primevideoin,” Dharmatic Entertainment founder Karan Johar wrote alongside the trailer posted on Instagram.

Produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, Ae Watan Mere Watan is directed by Daud and Ek thi Daayan helmer Kannan Iyer. Also featuring American actors Richard Bhakti Klein and Alexx O'Nell, the film is slated to premiere on Prime Video on March 21.
