Adipurush — starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan — recorded a massive opening on Friday with Rs 85 crore nett at the domestic box office, according to Box Office India reports.
The film directed by Om Raut has been released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. Most of Adipurush’s first-day earnings came from the Telugu version, which stood at Rs 50 crore nett. National chains contributed Rs 21.91 crore nett to the film’s collection, Box Office India reported. According to their estimates, the worldwide gross collections of the film would be in the range of Rs 140-150 crore.
In terms of 2023’s big-opening films, Adipurush is rubbing shoulders with Siddharth Anand’s spy action thriller Pathaan. While with an opening day collection of Rs 85 crore nett (in all languages) Adipurush edged past Pathaan (it had fetched Rs 57 crore nett in all languages), the Prabhas-led film lost to the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer in its collections from the Hindi version. Pathaan had taken home Rs 55 crore nett, while Adipurush collected Rs 34 crore nett.
Adipurush stars Prabhas as Raghava and Kriti Sanon as Janaki in Om Raut’s cinematic rendering of the Ramayana. Sunny Singh plays Raghava’s brother Sesh and Saif Ali Khan is Lankesh. The film begins with the kidnapping of Janaki and chronicles Raghava’s march to Lanka, along with his vanar sena, to rescue his wife.
