Actress Shabana Azmi posted a picture of herself with lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar to mark their 40th wedding anniversary on Monday.

“It’s been 40 years today since we got married and he still makes me laugh,” the actress wrote alongside the picture. Shabana appeared in a jovial mood in the photo, leaning against her husband.

Bollywood celebrities including Farah Khan, Ronit Roy, Zoya Akhtar and Aditi Rao Hydari took over the comment section to shower their wishes on the couple, who tied the knot in 1984.

Director-choreographer Farah Khan, who also celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary with husband Shirish Kunder on Monday, commented, “Happy anniversary ❤️ now wish me n Shirish too.. 20 yrs.”

Actor Ronit Roy commented, “Congratulations ❤️ The joy that is in the photo is priceless. Love you.” Zoya Akhtar wrote, “Happy happy ♥️♥️♥️.” Aditi Rao Hydari and Urmila Matondkar dropped heart emoticons in the comment section.

The couple reportedly met at Shabana’s father Kaifi Azmi’s house for the first time. Javed Akhtar was previously married to Honey Irani, with whom he welcomed his son, filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar (1974) and daughter, filmmaker-producer Zoya Akhtar (1972).

Shabana Azmi was last seen in Karan Johar’s 2023 directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.
