Abir Chatterjee has suited up in khakis for his debut in Hindi web series with Avrodh 2: The Siege Within, a trailer of which was recently released by Sony LIV. The Tollywood star is seen aiming and shooting, and drawing up plans to foil an attack on India.

The two-minute-14-second trailer gives a glimpse of the drama around espionage, bilateral ties, politics and military action that Season 2 of Avrodh promises.

Aahana Kumra’s character is seen offering Rs 100 crore to a local politician in Amritsar to foment animosity and remind people of the carnage in the 1980s.

Sanjay Suri, who plays a Pakistani politician, speaks of attacking the Indian economy by spreading counterfeit currency. It’s an international money laundering operation that Indian intelligence needs to bust, so they enlist their best on-the-ground intel, Pradeep Bhattacharya, played by Abir, an income-tax officer and a captain of the Indian Army.

Fans of Abir can expect him to nail the role of an intelligence officer in Avrodh Season 2 as he has brought many a sleuth to life on the Bengali screen. After playing Byomkesk Bakshi in 2011 in the Anjan Dutt film of the same name, Abir slipped into the shoes of Feluda in Sandip Ray’s Badshahi Angti and revisited the character of Byomkesh a few more times under Arindam Sil’s direction.

His most recent Tollywood outing as a detective has been as Sona-da in Dhrubo Banerjee’s Durgeshgorer Guptodhon and Guptodhoner Sandhane, both of which were box-office hits.

Abir, who is currently shooting for Zee Bangla’s upcoming season of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as the show host, posted the trailer of Avrodh Season 2 on his Instagram. “The enemy had planned for the ultimate siege, but had not planned for our bravehearts!” he wrote.

The first season of Avrodh was based on the first chapter of Rahul Singh and Shiv Aroor’s bestselling book, India’s Most Fearless. Season 2 is based on Chapter 9 - Just Tell Me When To Begin Sir.

The web series is written by Brijesh Jayrajan and Sudeep Nigam, and directed by Raj Acharya. It is produced by Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Juggernaut Productions.

The cast includes Mohan Agashe, Neeraj Kabi, Anant Mahadevan, Aahana Kumra, Rajesh Khattar and Sanjay Suri.

Avrodh2: The Siege Within will premiere on June 24 on SonyLIV.
