Abhay Verma and Sharvari Wagh-starrer horror comedy Munjya had a successful first week at the domestic box office, minting Rs 36.5 crore nett, the makers announced on Friday.
“Munjya is not just haunting audiences but the box office too, casting record-breaking numbers in its first week. Thank you for all the love and support!,” the official handle of Maddock Films wrote on X.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya had a solid start at the box office, earning Rs 4.21 crore nett on Day 1. The film went on to earn Rs 15.83 crore nett over the first weekend. It remained strong on the first Monday, minting Rs 4.11 crore nett. This was followed by a collection of Rs 4.21 crore nett on Tuesday and Rs 4.11 crore nett on Wednesday.
On its seventh day, Munjya experienced a slight decrease in earnings, bringing in Rs 4.03 crore nett on Thursday. With Kartik Aaryan-starrer Chandu Champion hitting the screens today, it remains to be seen if Munjya can maintain its strong performance in the second week.
Set in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Munjya explores the tale of a mythical creature rooted in folklore. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Amar Kaushik, this film is the latest addition to the horror-comedy series that includes Stree (2018), Roohi (2021), and Bhediya (2022).
Varun Dhawan makes a cameo appearance as his character from Bhediya in Munjya's post-credits scene. A teaser of Stree 2, slated to release on August 15, will be screened along with Munjya exclusively in theatres from today.
