Pictures of Aamir Khan speaking to Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on a video call following this year’s Paris Olympics have been doing the rounds on social media, sparking speculation about a sequel to the 2016 sports biopic Dangal.

Besides Aamir and Vinesh, Kripa Shankar Patel, a wrestler who trained Aamir for his wrestling scenes in Dangal, can also be seen in the viral photos.

Sharing the photos on X, a fan wrote, “Good touch from Aamir Khan. Over a video call, he congratulated Vinesh Phogat for her stupendous fight in Paris. Reminded her that her three fights were proof of her champion mentality. Former wrestler Kripa Shankar (also in the pic), who was mentor for the actors of ‘Dangal’.”

Dangal follows the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir), a former wrestler who trains his daughters, Geeta and Babita, to become world-class wrestlers, defying societal norms. Despite initial resistance, the girls excel under his rigorous coaching, with Geeta ultimately winning India’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling at the Commonwealth Games.

Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra portrayed the adult versions of the two Phogat sisters, while Zaira Wasim and the late Suhani Bhatnagar played their younger versions.

At the Paris Olympics this year, Vinesh was disqualified from the women’s wrestling 50kg class for being overweight by 100 gm. The 29-year-old wrestler had reached the final of her event by defeating Japan’s Yui Susaki on the night before her disqualification.

Vinesh announced retirement from wrestling a day after her disqualification. She also appealed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) seeking a joint silver medal. However, after multiple delays, the CAS ultimately rejected Vinesh’s request for a silver medal in the women’s 50kg event at the Paris Olympics.
